The POP-EXPOSE ‘Starz “Spartacus” by Mitchell Smith!

Spartacus-

Starz “Spartacus”

Spartacus is an age old story of true accounts about the rebellion against Rome at the start of the rise of the Roman Empire. Spartacus who came do be a slave to Roman Lentulus Batiatus in the year 73 BC, was trained and battled as a Roman Gladiator. Forced to fight in an arena as crowds looked on and cheered and many a coin switched hands on the account of who’s throat would be slit that day. Much like many sporting events in our modern world, only many a Gladiators died to the hand of their opponent. Many books and documentation have been kept of Spartacus, the Roman Republic, and the Roman Empire that was soon to follow. Starz took the story of the slave who was perhaps ahead of his time, that escaped and fought for freedom for him and for others that served the same fate as him.

I took to checking out some of the characters and stories and Starz seemed to follow the historic story pretty well. I haven’t had time to do a full research on the history, but many documentation has been lost from those days long past, and perhaps much is left unknown as info was slowly circulated back in that ancient time.

At first sight the Starz series which ran from 2010-2013, seemed a bit gruesome, very sexual, but perhaps enlightening of a more uncivilized time. This series gave a true sense of what it may have been like to live in Ancient Rome. The barbaric way and the ill regard to human life was highly reflected in the Roman manner, yet the architect, sculpting and man’s intellect were so fine-tuned, its hard to believe that they took joy in other peoples misfortune. They used slaves for comfort and pleasure even at the cost of their life. Spartacus who attacked the house in which he was enslaved to escaped and fought his way around southern Italy to free slaves and gain equality for them became a name embedded in history. I just started watching this a couple weeks ago on Netflix and it had proven entertaining and some what addictive. Now I am at the end of the series, and I want to learn a bit more about the history of this story. The story may be somewhat embellished but these ancient people and the story have remained over time, and Spartacus’s work and fight for freedom and equality has not gone unnoticed. Here over 2000 years later, he still inspires. So if you haven’t checked out the Spartacus series yet, make sure the kids aren’t around and check it out.
